The 7 step Autumn skincare routine : Tips on how to update your skin routine

How can Autumn weather affect our skin & Best Autumn Skincare Tips.

As the weather cools down, you may notice that your skin starts to feel dryer. This is because there is less moisture in the air, which can lead to dehydration. Cold weather can also cause skin inflammation and make existing skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis worse. It’s a good thing to have a regular autumn skincare routine in place. Here are 7 steps for achieving silky-smooth skin during the autumn months:

Add a Gentle Gel Cleanser

Skin’s natural cell turnover process creates debris on the upper layers which need to be removed before applying any other products, as this can affect the efficacy of future key ingredients penetrating the skin. And you should wash skin with lukewarm water. Gentle cleansing is crucial to avoid damage to your protective barrier and moisture loss. Choosing our gentle gel cleanser, is one of the best investment as part of your autumn skincare.

Add Vitamin C serum

If our Vitamin C isn’t already part of your skin care routine, there is no better time to introduce it. This allows the skin to retain more moisture and helps to protect the skin from external damage. In addition, Vitamin C can help to repair UV damage. In the summer months the skin is exposed to more UV than usual, and so applying Vitamin C serum can help to repair any damage and gets you a renewed skin when used as part of autumn skincare routine.

Add Hydrating Serum

Noticed your skin breaking out and looking dull recently? The change in seasons is probably to blame – it’s likely that you’re spending more time indoors and have ramped up the central heating, so your skin will require more hydration. Time to stock up our hyaluronic acid serum. It’s so important to keep and lock in the moisture during autumn months and must have in a autumn skincare routine.

Perfect time to add Retinol serum to your routine

Retinol is the anti-aging gold standard, but because it can cause photosensitivity and lead to inflammation and redness, the rule of thumb is to avoid it (or cut down on it) during the summer. But, come fall, it works wonders to assist in exfoliation and sun-induced discoloration and brown spots.

Add an Exfoliating serum

As the months get cooler, and fresh skin isn’t at the risk of sunburn, Smoothing the skin’s surface with our AHA serum or BHA serum gently renews the skin and leaves it baby soft and even textured after just one use. Slowly encouraging the cellular renewal of the top of the layer skin, reduces congestion and bumps under the skin, alongside lifting scars, pigmentation and dullness.

Don’t Swear off SPF

Even if you’re not spending the afternoon lounging poolside, Sun damage can occur any day, any time, and anywhere. In overcast weather, UV rays penetrate the skin, increasing your risk of skin cancer and accelerating ageing. Make sure you are applying ½ a teaspoon over the face, neck and ears for the fullest protection.

Use Your Body Lotion & Lip Balm

Humid air has a greater water content, so the water in the skin does not evaporate as much. So while it’s easier to get away with not regularly using body lotion during the summer, that’s not the case come fall. The air is drier, so the natural water that your skin holds tends to be lost. Plus, dry skin can become itchy and irritated.

Another trick of the trade: invest in a good humidifier to keep the air around you as moist as possible—your skin will thank you. It’s not just the skin that gets dry during the colder months. The lips do, too, and they can chap, flake, and crack. To prevent a dry pucker, swipe on a layer of an occlusive balm that contains petrolatum, glycerin, beeswax, or oils to lock in moisture.
